This is about the best that Ghana has to offer. The large dimensions of the drum (approx. 12”) are a conscious choice and at the same time a “tax for sound” that ordinary instruments simply cannot offer. However, it is true that these drums are mainly used by large ensembles and theaters, where frequent movement of instruments is not necessary 🙂 At social events such as weddings, funerals, outdoor performances or festivals, players more often choose the standard size of the bume (approx. 10”) for its compactness and easier handling.

Bume – a modern Ghanaian drum with roots in tradition

The Bume is one of the latest instruments of Ghanaian master drummers . It was created by combining the traditional kpanlogo drum with the sharper and more penetrating character of the djembe . The result is a unique instrument that resembles the Latin American congo in shape, but offers an incredibly lively sound , sharp slaps and at the same time a dense, deep bass .

This drum is hand-crafted by legendary drummer and drum maker, Christopher "Kalipo" Ametefe . This is by no means a tourist souvenir, but a fully professional, functional and authentic instrument , used by top players right in Ghana. Clean. Powerful. Uncompromising sound.
