The Sakara is a frame drum that originally came from Nigeria, but has spread to Benin, Ghana and other places. The drummer holds the drum in one hand and simultaneously uses the same hand to dampen and release the head, while using the other hand to strike different spots on the head, changing the pitch. This allows the drum to truly “talk”. It is traditionally played in an ensemble. A small drum with enormous potential.
